Right thing to do. Hopefully, Martin O'Neill will take him aside for a quiet word. O'Neill played for the north when it was dangerous to do so and always came across very diplomatically.

Not a word from the major West Brits (apart from Corkbhoy) on this issue. Imagine if it were Celtic or Irish fans carrying on like this. Stacky and Stict would be all over it like a bucket of piss. Their silence speaks for itself.

They can't be sorted out, nor reasoned with, it's a catch 22. Your talking about an awful lot of people who are prepared to find fault in whatever scenario they are presented with.

Loyalists...the people decency forgot.

Hard to win with those fuckwitted prods up north. You get death threats if you play for them, you get death threats if you don't.

Fair play to McClean. Nationalist soccer players shouldn't have to play for that embarrassment of a set up. They want a "National" side with a protestant/unionist identity, let them pick players that want to represent that.

Definitely for the best. It's an unwanted distraction for all and an easy outlet for the haters once the tournament starts.

I can understand that some footballers may like the idea of having a twitter account as it's an easy way to get their view across if they feel that they have been misrepresented in the media. But the temptation to act the fool yourself is all too great.

Great point. They're such a bunch of cunts. Traded on their loyalist, windsor park, rule brittania image for years, hounding out catholic players they didn't like, then start bitching and moaning when the Catholics go and play elsewhere.

Can't have it both ways lads.

The wisest thing to do. Hopefully he'll learn there's nothing to be gained for interacting with scumbags.

..."if there was a ring of steel outside the ground, then there was a ring of ire inside it. This was a maelstrom of hate, the sort of night on which even the gangsters look over their shoulder. Officially at least, the Republic had no supporters in the ground. "I have never seen a more hostile atmosphere," said Jack Charlton, "not even in Turkey." Terry Phelan and Paul McGrath received monkey chants; Alan Kernaghan, who played for Northern Ireland at schoolboy level, was noisily called a "fucking Lundy". And then there were the dogs, hundreds of them, or so it seemed, barking like they knew the apocalypse was coming. "The safest place to be," said McLoughlin, "was on the pitch."

Scum of the earth fans.
