Panasonic FZ30: I'm on the verge of buying this but now I've heard of the Kodak P880.

Seioursly consider a dslr like the nikon d50 or canon 350 if you want something you can build on and better quality pics. If you want convience and an all in one package the FZ30 is a good option, fantastic zoom range and good Lecia lens. Biggest complaint about such FZs would be high noise at higer iso levels = poor low light performance. The quality may not be as good as DSLR but there is less hastle in taking the pics.
