Default Soccer ante-post betting thread

OK lads, I know some of you like to have a few euro on the odd selection, same as myself. The kick off of the Coca-cola leagues in England is only a week away so it's time to do a bit of research into what ante-post bets to have on. I was thinking if we pool together our thoughts we might be able to come up with some decent bets. I'll stick in my opinions and if anybody has anything to add, feel free. When doing these bets I generally prefer to find value at odds in double figures rather than backing the obvious choice. It's each-way value that I go for really. Feel free to add any decent value bets in any competition (Leagues, cups, Europe, top scorers, whatever).

Here are a couple of my recommendations:

Hernan Crespo @ 14/1 Top Premiership goalscorer - He's a class act despite struggling to fit in at Chelsea under Ranieri. He should be capable of fitting nicely into Mourinho's set up with good quality supply coming from wide. 14/1 seems a value each way selection in my opinion.

Preston @ 20/1 - Coca Cola Championship - Finished last season very strongly but lost out to the Hammers in the play off final. Eddie Lewis will be a bit of a loss but they've signed a couple of decent players including Danny Dichio as well as keeping all the players (Lewis excepted) who got them so close to promotion last season. Again 20/1 seems good each way value to me.

Hartlepool @ 18/1 - Coca Cola League 1 - Like Preston they lost out in the play offs last season but have kept all their best players as well as making a few signings. Another good each way prospect.

League 2 is always hard to call. Torquay look decent value to me at best odds of 16/1. I need to find another selection to add to my acca.

You may be right there but the 14/1 about him still stands out to me. It's all about value.

If you think 14/1 is good value in betting then place it. To be honest i dont think id take a risk at 50/1 and im the man who bet on the pool to win the european cup when no one tought it possible.

if you do rate odds like that good then go with a bet on this

Top Goalkeeper from August 13th - August 31st. Singles Only - Win Only - Others on Request.
The Sun Dream Team' Betting for August
Cech 3 - 1 Maik Taylor 25 - 1 De Vlieger 80 - 1

Van der Sar 5 - 1 James 25 - 1 Carroll 80 - 1

Reina 10 - 1 Cudicini 33 - 1 S Harper 80 - 1

Given 14 - 1 Howard 33 - 1 Hoult 80 - 1

P Robinson 16 - 1 Drobny 33 - 1 Vaesen 100 - 1

Lehmann 18 - 1 Dudek 40 - 1 Enckelman 100 - 1

Friedel 20 - 1 Kirkland 40 - 1 Filan 100 - 1

Martyn 22 - 1 Ashdown 50 - 1 Andersen 100 - 1

Schwarzer 22 - 1 Wright 50 - 1 Almunia 100 - 1

Sorensen 25 - 1 Kelvin Davies 50 - 1 Alnwick 100 - 1

Jaaskelainen 25 - 1 S Taylor 66 - 1 Bywater 100 - 1

Kiely 25 - 1 Crossley 66 - 1

now read who plays who in august and bear in mind the sun awards points for saves etc.......so how czech is fav is beyond me.
Thanks but no thanks. I wouldn't be bothered betting on the sun dream team.

By the way, value can be found at any odds. Sometimes 1/10 can be good value. In this case though I'd be looking for double figure odds because I'll be backing each way.

Nah, I'm looking for ante-post i.e. season long bets and there's no way I'd have Celtic even at 20/1.

You should have a couple of euro on for them to win 5-0 and 6-0 too.

Mikel Forrsel -top goalscorer 33/1..good each way bet 1/4 the odds top 4 finish.

Newcastle are a good bet at 12/1 to finish in the top 3. Betting is without Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal. 1/4 the odds each way, 2nd or 3rd.

For anyone interested, you can watch the game on BBC Scotland tonight. Very easy to tune it into your sky channels.

Game-O-Ball - that bet is now into 10s on totesport.
