Question 'THIS COMPUTER IS LOW ON VIRTUAL MEMORY'... amongst other problems

Can somebody help before i fuck this latop off the 3rd floor...

Well, i changes my paging file size to 1024, seen it on another site. Any suggestions why im still getting this?

Also, the laptop has been very slow with ages,i had security on it the whole time i was on the internet, (norton at the start, then i was not connected for 9 months, now back again, installed AVG and spybot, both came up good.
I currently have IE7 open with 3 tabs, the CPU performance Leaps up and down every time i change tabs...Its very slow at opening folders, evn when i click start>programs, it takes about 4 seconds to open that, i am pretty fed up with it now.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Default options

get yourself some more ram, if your doing alot of application work on it upgrade it to about 2 gigs of Ram. If you already have that then run all your spyware and anti virus programs.

If this doesn't work then back up everything you need on your laptop to dvd and wipe the computer clean.

And use Firefox - I.E. 7.0 is just a copy of it anyway -- not a good one as usual....

Love Firefox but it hogs all your memory. Fair enough I've a shit load of extensions but still tis a bitch to use sometimes, I find I have to restart it from time to time (FF).

Never had to myself - I have 512mb ram on my lappy running xp pro with ff 2.0 and often have 10 plus tabs open plus other stuff going on...

have you checked what I.E. has plugged into it? spybot will do that for you..

Also whats your process run at start up? with xp anything over 25 is way to many - you should have 2- - 23 tops really

extra process running = extra memory use
