i've followed the irish gheyball team since i was a snotty child... fond memories of ronnie bursting the ussr's onion bag in '88.

i'll be supporting them tomorrow... hopefully they'll get a draw....and we get an easy play off.... would be great to be able to have some interest in the tourny next summer...

I've been a supporter of the beautiful game since yesterday, in that time I've experienced so many emotions - Highs, lows, laughter and tears.

in those 23 years my highs have been a plenty...
ronnie bursting england's bag in '88,
0-0 against the romanians in 90,
ronnie bursting baggio's bag in 94,
jayo bursting the dutch bag in 2001 and
keano bursting the german bag in 2002....

there's been the occasional low as well i guess...
euro 92 - didn't qualify...
euro 96.. the dutch knocking us out in the play offs...
world cup 98 - the belgians knocking us out in the play off... the belgians ffs.
euro 2000.... the macedonia (ffs) match...and turkey knocking us out in the playoff...
world cup 2002.. being knocked out by a rubbish spanish team who went on to lose to korea (ffs) and we couldn't beat when they were down to 10 men and we were awarded questionable penalties .... ...
not even qualifying for a play off spot in euro 2004 (ffs)....
not even qualifying for a play off spot in world cup 2006 (ffs)...
the whole of the euro 2008 debacle... almost drawing with san marino... being thrashed by billy ray cyprus.....
steve staunty (ffs)
and being knocked out by france in the last world cup...a team that was being managed by an actual simpleton and went on to score 1 goal and lose all their matches when they played in the world cup...
i guess really when you think about it if you look at the abject drivel we've been playing for about 10 years where we've gone from bad to just embarrassing... there's an argument for saying that is really just one low point...

I'll support those lads now, just as long as I don't have to watch the game.

Did you have those cardboard players heads stuck to the back window of your car for World Cup '90?
