Default How to use a XBOX 360 for TIVO

This is not for the faint hearted, or poor students for that matter...

The XBOX 360 can be used as a media extender which will enable you to watch live & recorded TV (and pause TV), full EPG (Electronic Program Guide)
stream all your mp3`s & pictures, and play loads of other video formats - NOT DIVX or XVID at the moment - BOO!

heres it what it loks like on your telly:

what you will need:

PC running Windows Media Center OS 2005
compatible TV tuner card

I have my chorus box conencted to my hauppage tv tuner card, windows media center picks it up, and you can setup the EPG by region (not easy!)

once this is all setup, xbox360 can be setup as a media extender here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/m...r/default.mspx
http://www.xbox.com/en-IE/pcsetup/

takes a bit of doing, port forwarding and firewall stuff, i have mine setup over wifi, its the job.

once its setup i can watch tv in the front room using my normal chorus box, then flip over to the xbox 360 and schedule a tv recording if i want, or watch live tv thru it....

have a lamp here:

http://www.microsoft.com/ireland/win...r/default.mspx
http://www.thegreenbutton.com/community/

I originally tested all this with VMware, if you have a copy of windows media center, lob it into VMware and give it a go.

if you dont have the tv tuner card, you can still do all the media streaming...

I don't quite understand, you use the TV tuner on your PC, and send it from there to the XBox from where you record?
Does the EPG appear on the XBox or the PC?

all the recording is done on the PC - controlled & viewed remotely on your TV via xbox 360 media extender

EPG appears on both PC & XBOX
