West Landan Racist Right Wing Scum or Teutonic Warrior Heros?

Bundesliga shows English Premier League how to take football fans into the 21st century
Saturday, 1pm and the walkway at Dusseldorf Hauptbahnhof, the city\'s main train station, resembles a small carnival. A drum is beating, crates of beer are being lugged from platform to platform, fancy dress costumes are on display and an assortment of flags, shirts and questionable headwear are the order of the day.
Bayern Munich fans: Five things the English Premier League can learn from the German Bundesliga
Reaping the benefits: fans in the German Bundesliga experience some of best football-watching conditions in the world
A constant wall of noise – singing, shouting and friendly banter – accompanies this ever-changing blur of colour. The scene, though, is common-place on Saturdays at a station that often acts as a crossroads for matches across Germany\'s Bundesliga, the best-supported domestic football competition in the world. And yes, you did read the last part of that sentence correctly.

For all the hype and often justified praise that surrounds the Premier League, it is a little-known fact that average attendances for matches in Germany\'s top league have surpassed their English equivalent for each of the past five seasons.

The contention that England automatically hosts the most exciting world league is also highly debatable. This season, the Bundesliga is averaging more than three goals per game and, over the past decade, can boast a consistently superior scoring ratio to the Premier League. The competitiveness and current unpredictability is also underlined by the extraordinary story of 1899 Hoffenheim, a club who have won four promotions since 2000 and are based in a village of just 3,272 people. They are sitting above Bayern Munich at the summit of the Bundesliga.

According to Malcolm Clarke, the chairman of the Football Supporters\' Federation, Germany represents \"many of the football values and practices we should aspire to\".

The differences are certainly considerable, yet a trip on Saturday to watch Borussia Monchengladbach\'s 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich certainly underlined some of the alternative ideas and structures that English administrators should consider.
The choice is yours.

Shreeves: "Congratulations Franck, you're through to the final. How does it feel to have a face like a welder's bench?"
