Rory Scannell and Ultan Dillane cut from the squad.
43 players, 31 spots.

Injuries in the warms ups will tell a lot.

Interesting squad for this game: half of them trying to get into the frame for the final squad and half trying to play themselves into the starting team v Scotland in Yokohama in 6 weeks time.

Larmour at full-back is potentially exciting, but he has to prove his defensive worth and his fielding ability needs to sharpen up

Conway should get into the final squad, but it wouldn't be any harm for him to have a solid game with a couple of tries.

Farrell and Ringrose is fascinating: can they gel as a partnership? Having Farrell at 12 could offer a straight runner interlinking with Carbery inside and Ringrose and Larmour outside. Farrell needs games, so if he comes through on Saturday with no after-effects he should see gametime at least v Wales once.

Dave Kearney ... what can you say ... Fighting for his future, but Joe will come down on his side in any 50/50 call ...

Carbery needs to put serious pressure on Sexton at 10, needs to sharpen up his kicking from hand and game management, but offers much more in the attack.

Likewise Luke McGrath needs to put the heat on Conor Murray (assuming he is fully fit for the RWC)

Front row: again need to put their hands up for starting in Yokohama. Herring's darts will come under scrutiny again here.

Great to see Jean Kleyn in there, but might take some time to get up to speed at international level. Should get the full 80 on Saturday. Hopefully, Toner is recovered from his injury and feeling no after-effects.

Ruddock should be on the plane, TOD needs to have an injury free run at 7 and Murphy must show he can put pressure on Conan and Stander for the 8 jersey.

Most of the bench should be going to Japan.

I was interested to read that the scrum could be making a comeback at this World Cup. If so we need to get ours in working order sharpish. That means figuring out the most effective combinations. Kleyn is important here as a scrummaging lock with plenty heft and grunt.

Perhaps the most important thing from the 4 upcoming matches is to minimise serious injuries. We've been here before. Let's not try and make the same mistakes.
