Default The White

Had a phone call earlier from someone representing The White http://www.thewhite.co.uk/

Essentially wanted me to shell out £500 to get one of our tracks put on a promo Vinyl/CD that they send out to 1000 industry people in UK.

What was interesting was that he said he had found our track on the PROC website. Just wondering if anyone else who posts tracks here had a call.

The track was "You And Me" by the way.

From "The White" ?

I've had Emails before, and also junk mail from the states offering the same thing (yes a real letter - made from trees!). This guy called my mobile from the U.K.! He spent 5 minutes asking me about what we wanted to achieve and all that. Now that is costly.

Especially when I declined.

Avoid like the Plague!!

We had a call from this crowd as well. It's a farce. We've heard first hand from A&R people (sony, atlantic and others) as well as the FMC that 1) their database is old and 2) A&R people don't respect them and don't listen to their CD's. So I would advise you not to do it.

I always turn to my fountain of knowledge (i.e. the missus) when advice is needed.

She said "According to Americas top model, if you are the one who has to pay for the promotion, then don't do it"

Are you serious! never do a promo like that... have you ever seen one of them. something like 20 bands put their tracks on these things so they can be used as drink coasters. horrible.

Just because they get mailed out to people doesn't mean they followed up on.

Ask the person who is contacting you if you can get a list of names so that you can follow them up yourself. You paid for it, you should be able to follow up your own leads.

Anyone in msic will tell you that music is half talent and half contacts. My band just sorted out managment with a big Los Angeles management company only recently... it wasn't the music that did it... it was two years of email relationships turned into a solid business relationship.

you'd have better luck buying the rock and roll yellow pages and doing it yourself.
