You're looking for stuff on property nodes. Hard to describe while sitting at my desk and it doesn't help that i've done notihing on labview for near on 4 years.
I think this should cover it, I'm fairly sure I know what you're asking, but I'd need to see it to get a firm fix on exactly whats wrong.
