Pedestrian lights will serve the purpose perfectly well. Money would be far better spend on proper cycle paths and safe footpaths from the roundabout all the way into Victoria's cross.
That hinterland you refer to was there approx 30 years before that roundabout which was put to use in*1996.

I understand your argument, mickohall. There were other arguments as to why it wouldn't work in Dublin (weather being chief amongst them) but it's the most successful bike rental scheme worldwide to date. We can come up with a million reasons it wouldn't work, but when all's said and done it would be more beneficial than painting and re-painting dangerous lines on roads.

Even outside of that, it's very shortsighted for them to have disimproved pedestrian/cyclist facilities in a large-scale junction upgrade near a suburban area. They saw fit to include the pedestrian bridge first day (possibly at quite a cost).

What is needed is a campaign to ensure the overpass is rebuilt asap. A good start might be a signed petition which takes people's preferences as to whether they want to see the pedestrian/cyclist overpass rebuilt and/or a public meeting on the issue locally.

Pretty much impossible methinks, would have to be ridiculously high to get over the overpass, and constructing a subway would be undesirable/impracticall too. A missed opportunity...

The overpass could be rebuilt to the west of the intersection, but that would take people a good bit out of their way, and probably wouldn't be used.

I think it's a missed opportunity too. Should have been in the design phase. Building it after the fact just isn't going to happen, let's be honest.

The next one they'll completely fuck up will be the tunnel interchange.

There will not be a pedestrian overpass at the new interchange/fly over.

Pedestrians and cyclists etc are just going to have to get over it.
