Default Chelsea transfer news.

Asier del Horno, Athletico Bilbao's left back, is first signing of the summer for us and a good one I hope. We needed a left back as Bridgey is out until October..

I can just imagine the chant from the Mathew Harding lower....

"Im Horny...horny, horny, horny......"

Details below

Chelsea sign Spain’s Del Horno

LONDON: Chelsea have signed Athletic Bilbao left back Asier del Horno for 12 million euros on a three-year contract, the Premier League champions said on Tuesday.

“Asier is an outstanding international player who will add quality to the squad in a position we needed to strengthen,” said Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in a statement.

A powerful attacking fullback who is strong in the air, the 24-year-old came through the youth ranks at Athletic.

Del Horno made his debut for Spain last September in a friendly against Scotland. Chelsea have been looking for a player to challenge Wayne Bridge at left back. – Reuters

From "Star" a very reliable source on the Chelsea Supporters Registry.

He's right 80% of the time as he has an insider source...He predicted the Del Horno deal back in January...even when we were not talking to Ashley Cole...hehe.

Shammy

"Got a call from Man in head Office at 6pm today. Chelsea despite reaching agreement with Betis on the transfer fee have NOT spoken directly with Joaquin.

It appears he wants to stay in Spain and his preferred destination is Real Madrid who have yet to match Chelsea's bid.

Subsequently Chelsea HAVE had a bid for Essien turned down by Lyon. Chelsea were furious that they leaked the news but apparently they have now backtracked as we are rumoured to be now looking at Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich.

Crespo is holding up the striker bid and we definately have offered he and Veron in part exchange for Adriano but Hernon won't play ball. There has been NO offer for Shevchenko.

I'll make a prediction that we end up with Del Horno, Essien and Torres.
The Spanish connection with Del Horno and Joaquin settling over here was the first on the agenda - my gut feeling is we'll fail to get Adriano or any other striker from a top side in Europe.

No info about SWP or any other winger which makes the Essien bid strange."

Big fan of Justin Fashinou's rear guard action was our Philby...apparently. ..

I guess this means that Gallas is on his way out. Pity.

Nope. Gallas is staying. Del Horno is cover for bridge on the left and a direct replacement for Babayaro who left last January. Gallas will revert to his natural position of centre half but will have to contend with Terry, Carvalho and to a lesser degree Huth.

That's what I was thinking. He'll find it hard to get his game and he's not the kind of guy to tolerate a situation he doesn't like for long.
