Park Inn on West George's Street, dead centre, right next to the Counting House (one of my favorite Wetherspoons).

Very sad. Glasgow is a great city, very like Cork in ways.

I second this moe. Glasgow is a belter of a city to visit for a weekend shopping etc. And your right it is like cork in a lot of ways, just stay in the city center. Wandering off the beaten track can bring you into some very dodgy spots where strangers are not welcome at all at all.

It is also extremely advisable to leave any soccerball jerseys you own safely at home. Best to wait when departing from Glasgow airport, the Celtic and Rangers sports shops are right next door to each other in departures.

I love Edinburgh but after a few days there Glasgow is a breath of fresh air, a dose of normality.

Agreed as well on staying in the centre too. Although when I went there first I was feeling brave and walked out to the Barrows one night with the intention of a few pints. Went into a place painted with Irish flags and with bars on the window, and yer man took one look at me and said they were closed, at around 9pm.

I said in my Irish accent "oh no bother, is there anywhere else decent around?"

When he heard the accent he apologised and asked what I wanted, and then wouldn't take any money from me.
