Ticketmaster is slammed as 'greedy' and 'disgusting' for REFUSING to give refunds for events that have been postponed because of the pandemic - a policy change it enacted in March

The policy change was announced on the Ticketmaster blog on March 12, but went largely unnoticed without a wider press release. It also does not appear on the site's Newsroom page.
In the blog post, the company claimed to be making safety and well-being a priority.
'Caring for the safety and well-being of our fans has been and always will be TicketmasterÂ’s most important priority, especially during challenging times like these,' it read.

While the company promised to continue to monitor the status of scheduled events, however, it also announced the policy change.

The post explained that while canceled events will still be automatically refunded, that is no longer the case for events that are rescheduled for a later date, or postponed without a set date in mind.
'If your event was postponed or rescheduled and you are unable to attend (and resale is enabled for your event), you can sell your tickets to other fans on our safe and simple Ticketmaster resale marketplace,' the post goes on.

The change had gone largely unnoticed at first, except by a few customers who had tried unsuccessfully to get refunds for their postponed events.
But on Friday, Digital News Music published the story — quickly prompting major backlash from customers.

Since the news broke, social media users have been expressing anger and frustration with the new policy, calling Ticketmaster 'greedy' and accusing the company of taking advantage of a crisis at the expense of others.

'Comforting to know that even when the world is in the grips of a pandemic, Ticketmaster remains committed to being just a surprisingly large piece of s***,'

'Ticketmaster can go to hell,' raged another, while a third tweeted:

'Ticketmaster not offering refunds for postponed shows DURING A PANDEMIC is disgusting.'

'The fact that we have no real alternative to Ticketmaster is absolutely infuriating & entirely unacceptable,' wrote yet another.
Many are questioning the legality of the decision, since the policy change went into affect after tickets were already purchased.
'It's gotta be illegal to change a policy on those grandfathered in after a point of sale has occurred yes?' asked one.
'I see a Class Action lawsuit in Ticketmaster's future,' wrote another.

'I applaud Ticketmaster for continuing to shine in what is apparently a competition to provide the worst customer service in any industry,' she wrote. 'Exorbitant ticket fees for negligible benefits — now taking advantage of a crisis to line their pockets? Next level.'

Many commenters want to see the company go bankrupt by the time the crisis comes to an end.

'If there's one company that goes under this year, I hope it's ticketmaster and their greedy a** practices that bar poor people from ever enjoying events,' wrote one.

'Ticketmaster time and time again has demonstrated that they are the absolute scum of the music industry, itÂ’s absolutely f***ed these clowns have a monopoly over so many tours and venues, I hope they go out of business,' wrote yet another.

A spokesperson for Ticketmaster told DailyMail.com that it is clients, not Ticketmaster itself, that have the power to refund customers.
'Our standard practice is for our clients to hold the cash from their ticket sales,' the statement said. 'Clients using our platform also retain the ability to set individual policies for their postponed or rescheduled events.

'Typically, event organizers have had the flexibility to offer refunds for virtually all postponed and rescheduled events.
'However, the unprecedented volume of over 30,000 events impacted to date, coupled with continued uncertainty over setting new dates while awaiting clearance from regional governments, has led to event organizers needing additional time to reschedule their events before deciding to offer refund options.

'As of today, over 11,000 events, including over 4,000 postponed sports, concerts and arts events, have already authorized refunds.
'While we cannot guarantee all event organizers will offer refunds on their rescheduled events, we anticipate the vast majority will make a refund window available once new dates have been determined. In addition, Ticketmaster continues to issue refunds for all cancelled events.
'The entire Ticketmaster team is working from home and doing its best to respond to all fans and clients. We will continue to keep fans up to date on the status of events via email and via our Covid-19 event portal,' the statement concluded.
