Default Fuck off Norton.

I accidentaly clicked on a divx upgrade download, I neglected to uncheck the norton pc check thing. I have searched and deleted as such but it got in anyway.

Anyway that I can get rid of this bastard norton? It just popped up their announcing a check. I did the Ccleaner and that didnt work the only other option that I have is a system restore?

How can I get rid of them without doing a system restore? I tried everything outside of the restore option. They are an itch that I cannot get rid of. That pisses me off big time.

Download a free package called Revo Uninstaller.

If that does not find it, use Revo Uninstaller Pro: you will get it free for a trial period. That will seek out and destroy Norton. Guaranteed.

Go into your Add/remove Programs under control panel.

When all the programs are loaded, they should be alphabetically listed. Look in there for Norton or Symantec - un-install....

Revo whilst good will not un-install norton nor will Ccleaner.

if you look in your programs list [XP] you will also see the option in there to un install..

Even though Norton provide an uninstaller with there programs 9/10 they don't work and you need to get a special uninstall program from there website...they are well known for this kind of crap and as such I placed them in my own personal list of known malware.

i.e. if you need to use a secondary program to remove the initial program then A.F.A.I.C the initial program is malware.. end of story....

I am nearly 100% certain that the add/remove programs will not rid you entirely of Norton. I know that I had to resort to Revo Uninstaller Pro - does a much more thorough job than add/remove programs.

Thanks all I think it is gone now. Used an uninstaller to get rid. Twas a right pain. Smeggle is right to class it as malware. As for Graham I reckon he could be a bit of pain in the behind as well
