It's a bit more involved in setup at first but it will save you a new phone for another few years. If it's too above your head, pay someone €20-50 to do it for you if the phone is worth rescuing.

On a side note, doing the same with linux will do the same and add years to an old laptop or desktop.

Feel free to ask me any more questions
Why lineage as opposed to Ubuntu touch, Paranoid Android, MIUI etc?

Ubuntu touch is dead afaik, I've never heard of Paranoid Android and am only vaguely aware of MIUI.

I recommended lineage because I have plenty of experience with it and am very happy.

AFAIK Cyanogenmod was the standard, and that got taken over by Lineage.

Thanks for all the tips lads, none of it worked tbh although I did notice a small improvement after the cache partition was cleared.

I was at a Harry Potter convention with the girlfriend yesterday and my camera wouldn't work, so we had to use her old Samsung for photos.

When we were having a bite in Arthur Maynes afterwards I bit the bullet and just did a factory reset, and the phone is top notch again.

Not quite sure wtf these companies are thinking when they send out an update which absolutely ruins the phone.

Girlfriend is a big fan, I got us tickets for her birthday back in mid to late March.

She enjoyed it, as did I tbh. The blue Ford Anglia was there so I hopped into that for a photo opportunity.

Some amount of fuckin freaks at the thing though.
