Note: Kimya Dawson plays the Pine Lodge in Myrtleville for 2 nights. These are her only Cork shows as part of her Irish tour.

Kimya Dawson is the artist-poet skateboard girl, likened to a modern-day Woody Guthrie/ Billie Holiday rolled into one and is what almost every smoky nightclub jazz chanteuse wishes she could be. Most importantly, she is a very delicate human sensing device and is the only real human on a planet full of androids. What makes her and her music so unique is her undiluted humanity, comparable only with Richard Prior in the way she uses humor and sorrow combined as a personal healing device. While acclaimed New York anti-folk duo The Moldy Peaches take a hiatus, founder member Kimya Dawson has been busier than ever, releasing four solo albums (the lastest of which has been released on K Records and is entitled "Hidden Vagenda") and touring constantly. Frank Black (The Pixies) and Kaia Wilson (Team Dresch, The Butchies) have recently labelled her a "road warrior". Kimya Dawson has played and toured with Daniel Johnston, They Might Be Giants, Jeffrey Lewis, The Mountain Goats, Regina Spektor and Calvin Johnson and shares the same playful innocence wrapped in world-weary-knowing as
each of them.

Philadelphia's Strand of Oaks have recently collaborated with - and subsequently become the backing band for - artists such as JASON ANDERSON (K records), KIMYA DAWSON and RED HOUSE PAINTERS, and show the same gentle restraint and subtle approach in their own songs as they lend to others.

Taking the simplicity of a folk song as a starting point and building it into a larger moment - an idea rich in musical and emotional complexities, yet sparse enough to allow breathing space for genuine tenderness. a concept reminiscent of NICK DRAKE, ELLIOT SMITH, SMOG, EDITH FROST and VASE.

Strand of Oaks are tim (guitar, banjo and vocals) greg (bass, guitar, keys) and thomas (drums).
