Default Gibralter joins the European elite of San Marino etc.

UEFA have been forced to accept Gibraltar as a provisional member of European football despite fierce opposition from Spain.

A meeting of UEFA's executive committee in Nyon, Switzerland, today decided they had no choice but to admit the Gibraltar Football Association following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

A final decision will now be taken by the UEFA Congress next month.

Spain dispute the sovereignty of the British overseas territory and the Spanish FA had submitted new documents to UEFA opposing their inclusion.

A statement from UEFA said: "The UEFA executive committee has duly taken note of the CAS award of July 6 2006 and had no choice but to admit the Gibraltar Football Association as provisional member of UEFA.

"Furthermore, the UEFA executive committee has also taken note of the decision of the FIFA executive committee, according to which the GFA 'does not meet the statutory requirements to become a FIFA member'."

UEFA also welcomed the fact the Independent Football Review, which calls for limits on spending by clubs among other changes, had been fully endorsed by European sports ministers last week and has been included in the European Commission's white paper on sport which will be ready next year.

Following higher-than-expected profits from European club competitions, UEFA also approved a plan to distribute an extra £700,000 each to the competing clubs in the group stage of this season's Champions League and an extra £70,000 to the 80 clubs that were in the first round of UEFA Cup.

Clearly knows absolutely nothing on this major political issue involving a country he lives in but is an all knowing preacher when it comes to American Foreign Policy over on the Langers Forum. He embarrasses himself over there even more than he does in here and that's saying something!!!
I bet you 2me hits Wikipedia pretty hard before he dares post in this thread again Knowing him though he'll probably end up talking about Rock of Gibralter: The Horse!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_of...ar_%28horse%29
