Default Fifa world rankings.

We have droped to 21st! England have droped to 11th, Sweden have jumped 5 places to 10th.
how can we have droped down to 21st? a lot teams have leapfroged us. Like Poland, but i fail to see how some of the teams between 10 anD 20 can be better then us like Iran for example and Costa Rica. I know these rankings are not 100% right, they are only a sort of marker to go by, but still 21st?

Still though, it's funny that a team who think they are the best can't hit the top 10!

Those World Rankings are a joke anyway.Celtic were 4th in the World at one point and 2nd around the time of Seville. Now we are World Class and all that but……...

Sweden are playing well at the moment.. must give them that... They were lucky last week with the injury time goal, but outplayed the hungarians all game.. Zlatan again... playing well.. And with Mellberg, Henke, Freddie, they have a nice team..

21st? thats rubbish, what were we? 14th? and the polish are ahead of us?
the only way i can see that working is through intimidation, that would explain why there are so many of them in our country

i think there's some kind of weighting system to do with the number of victories a country has in year...but the weighting doesn't take into account the strength of the opposition
..hence a team like Iran who would trash most teams in asian ( bar korea and japan )...rack up loads of points for running riot against Laos and India

What's wrong with 21st??? We are coming 4th in "our" WC qualifying group behind the mighty Switz and Israel. Can we really think we are a Top 20 power?
I will admit that their are some dodgy teams above us but then again their are quite a few below us that i wouldn't fancy us to beat in a playoff.

The rankings are based on results over the last 5 years.

They are weighted so that current results get more points. I think the more current year counts as 100%, the year before that 80% down to 5 years ago 20%.

Also, losing or drawing to a team below you in the ranking is bad news. If you beat or draw a team higher than you that is good.

The importance of the match is taken into account also. Thus beating the Czech Republic last year in a friendly probably didn't count for much.

The highest ranking team that we have beaten under Brian Kerr ina competitive match is apparently Albania so I think 21 may be a fair reflection.

Poland are way better than us at the moment as are Sweden.
Iran beat us 1-0 the last time we met (2001 world cup playoffs) and we beat them 2-0 just before that.
