Dresden was a war crime IMO. No militaty value and intentionally creating a giant firestorm is diabolically evil.
Good post.

Switching to bombing london in the battle of britan and not destroying the radar towers was a huge mistake.

Also very interesting is to read about the Battle if the Beams where both sides looked to jam or spoof the guidance beams used by the other side.

In the end the brits won the beam battle and using their OBOE system put pathinders with flare markers on target first and this was followed by the main force iften using up to 1000 lancasters or flying fortress sized bombers to pound a particular city.

The german bombers mainly He-111s were small to medium sized machines more suited to airfield or shipping attacks.

The germans had only a few heavy Condor bombers but these were used for maritime patrol.

German bombers were the first to bomb civilians. They did it accidentally - I have forgotten whether it was London or not. The Brits retaliated by bombing Berlin and then bombing civilians in cities became the norm - by both sides.

The Allies were more effective at it - between the Brits and the Americans, they had far more (and bigger) bombers.

Very little is said about the fire bombing of Japanese cities - before the atom bombs were dropped, the Americans were firebombing a Japanese city out of existence, every other day.
