She repeatedly “swallows” mid sentence as well. Not her fault obviously, but not a good trait for a broadcast journalist.

Plus, it’s for the best if political correspondents are apolitical. Writing books and expressing personal opinions publicly are a complete no no for political correspondents.

If you become the story, then your credibility is gone.

Tony Connelly in Brussels is a superb example of maintaining a neutral balance when reporting a major issue.

So is Tommie Gorman.

Fitzgerald just isn’t as good as either.

By the way, Áine Lawlor on The Week In Politics is absolutely superb, as is Audrey Carville on Morning Ireland.

They’re examples which demonstrate how mediocre Fitzgerald is.

Tommie Gorman is the master of the needless pause.

Ya that’s another one of her annoyances.

The outcry from politicians on her axing is testament to the fact that she should go anyway.

When I read that TD’s were unhappy she was leaving her job, I thought straight away it’s a good thing she’s leaving. Getting too buddy buddy but that’s typical RTE and unlikely to be the motive for them not renewing her contract.
