A busy month ahead with a whole load of shows coming up this April, lots on at Coughlans as well as the first Right Here Right Now Festival taking place over the May Bank Holiday Weekend at Cork Opera House (which this year is April 28th - May 1st).

A couple of highlights that we are looking forward to is;

Celebrating Emmylou Harris' 70th Birthday,

Oklahoma songstress Samantha Crain brings her band to Cork in support of her great new album 'You Had Me At Goodbye',

Booka Brass are back at the end of the month for 2 shows, after two previous sell out shows at Cork Opera House it's a very rare opportunity to catch them in such an intimate setting.

and of course the great celebration and spotlight on all the great music that's emerging from Cork which is Right Here Right Now Festival!

Hot Blooded Animals play a Free gig tonight from 10pm.

A real goodtime classic rock group with years of experience of playing both nationally and internationally, armed with a jukebox sized catalogue of tunes that are all performed with plenty of gusto. The Animals feature blistering guitar work, large slabs of bass grooves and the type of wild drumming keith moon dyed for.
Even though they are a band of trumped-up Culchies, the Hot Blooded Animals play the kind of Rock n Roll cover songs we can all relate to.

Tonight The Bonk & Patrick Freeman - Double Headliner show
9pm. Tickets €10. www.coughlans.ie/whats-on/

THE BONK

With the familiarity of that which came before and the uncertainty of that which has not yet been, the Bonk’s first cut, ‘Ancestor’, is garage born and groove laden. Driven by the screaming keys and dusty vocal of frontman Phil Christie, ‘Ancestor’ creeps its way into the bones with blistering guitars and a pounding rhythm section reminiscent of Albert King jamming with 13th Floor Elevators on a foggy mountain peak in a parallel universe.

Two further tracks are set for release in the coming months when the band will take their full live repertoire on the road for the first time with shows at home along with select performances further afield.

Borrowing a term used to describe a state of mental and physical collapse, The Bonk often uses layered competing rhythms in a way that tends towards estrangement from the familiar. Time and time again, The Bonk plays (upon) ideas of time and repetition, repetition and time.

‘Cipher’, the second offering from The Bonk will be available for free download from Soundcloud and Bandcamp from Monday 20th February.

Patrick Freeman is an itinerant musician, songwriter and performer with an eclectic musical sensibility that traverses psychedelia, folk, country, blues and good old fashioned rock'n'roll. Lately he can often be found scheming and recording in Big Skin HQ, Cork, infamous home of O Emperor and the Animals House. When not touring the world performing his own perverse melodies to an unsuspecting public he is making music with bands such as The Bonk and Old Hannah.
