I have one kinda ginger friend, he's not obviously ginger so I can be seen with him in public without shame.

I have a couple of lesbian friends, but no gay friends (friends of friends are gay, but not my friends).

My college friends are international, but all Caucasian.

I can't think of any friends who are muslim or jewish - plenty of acquaintances and colleagues, but not actual friends.

Is D'oriel a big fat intolerant, homophobic racist underneath all the lovey duvey stuff?

How do you fare?
Difference is you live in London and in Cork we don't have the same spread, so you could be a little more open, yes.

But isn't that patronising?

I don't have enough black friends - will you hang around with me?

All of my close friends are white. I had a more diverse group of friends when I did my masters, mainly because the uni marketed abroad quite aggressively. I was friendly with a few black classmates, but not too much, got a lot of christian shit from them and found it tiresome.

I'm very friendly with a former colleague who is lesbian. Am out of touch with a gay guy I was friendly with at work.

My sister-in-law is going out with a lad from Kerry, we've even had him over to the house.

I have absolutely no friends whatsoever, and I do not engage with people socially.

If I don't know you through work, then I don't know you and I probably never will.

Why?

Because love is for the weak.

I'm so lonely.

Is the lack of diversity in one's social circle an issue at all?

I have lesbian and gay friends.
2 black friends.
1 Asian friend.
3 Indian friends.

Not to mention all you lovely virtual friends here, some of which are friends in person or at least I like to think so.

Point being surely what matters is the calibre of friend you are, not the diversity of friendships you have. Or were you just throwing it out there?

I have no idea.

But one of my friends - British south-east Asian - has a hugely diverse group of Friends. Not necessarily conscious of it, it just is. He's born and raised saff lahndan, so obviously that has influenced the social circle.

I just find it interesting that when people talk about the global village, social globalisation, multi-cultural societies etc., just curious to see how that then reflects on us individually.

Not saying it's either a good or bag thing. Just more of an observation.
