Looking at the playoff scenario, it's quite possible, bordering (pun not intented) on probable, that Ireland will end up with NI and Scotland in the same section, and quite possibly meet the North in the semi.

Ireland, NI and Scotland were ranked 23, 24 & 25 respectively in Nations League, and look like having to go the playoff route, bar Ireland puling something out of their arses in the last couple of games.

This is it. We are calling them shit ourselves so we can’t give out when someone else does it!

That said, we are woeful to watch but we are a bit like Burnley - can be hard to beat sometimes so we are shit to watch but not totally shit. I can’t see us getting anything tonight either. We don’t have enough up top to take the heat off the defence for a while. They’ll break us down eventually.

Get Maguire and Connolly on Tuesday night.

Glenn Whelan still starting? Ffs.
Yeah, I thought Whelan retired about 2 years ago.

Connelly had a big chance against Georgia near the end but pulled it wide - if he had scored then most everyone would have forgotten about the performance.

Tbh, I don't really care about entertaining football, it is about results at this level.

I know we are but it's a bit rich when his crowd and the Swiss couldnt put us away in the previous games.

I think that does a disservice to Burnley tbh. At least they can string three passes together.

I'l watch the game tonight but we all know it's going to be brutal, mind numbing stuff.

i can't work this out at all, but it seems we will be in path B (which doesn't include scotland)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_E...ng#Play-offs_2

unless this strange clause is followed:

Competition-related reasons: In order to give host teams a fair chance to qualify for the final tournament, they may be allocated to different paths.

We're poor there's no doubting that. The Swiss are a ball playing team a level or two above us, and Shabby is right they will break us down at some point but we are solid at the back and they lack clinical finishers. They made Schmeichel look like his old fella on steroids on Saturday but really they are not great up front. Which means we are likely to have chances to get something out of this game. Best we could possibly hope for is a score draw but for that to happen McLean need not be on the pitch for the first 75 minutes and they're needs to be attacking intent in the team. Chances of that happening? Doubtful I'd say.

Mick has already said he’s happy with a draw despite it not technically doing anything for us so I can’t see us changing tact and going all out for a win. I don’t even think he would change even if it was the last game and we needed a win. He sees our best chance of winning as keeping it tight for as long as possible and trying to steal a goal from a set-piece.

His logic is that he hopes Denmark will qualify tonight if we can hold the Swiss and they will have nothing to play for in the last game so we can try get our win there.
