A friend of mine who is a huge FG supporter said Coveney is being lined up for the E.U. commissioner job to get him out of the Dáil as a threat to Leo. He said there’d be a heave against Leo if they lose election. Martin and McGrath would gladly see Simon move out of South Central to Brussels and FF would support his nomination.

Phil Hogan will most likely get a second stint, way too many skeletons in his closet to have Irish media glare on him.

Is there any political advantage to Leo having Big Phil stay out there? The guy who took the seat in KK is only a junior minister

Did I say there was?
You are the one assuming the will be a heave, assuming that Coveney would be behind it and assuming that Coveney will go to Europe.

Coveney has form for supporting heaves and were Varadkar to lose the election there’d be moves to replace him. Coveney was MEP for a few years so knows the Brussels scene. It’d leave it open for Pascal to take over as leader. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I heard that Harris has aspirations for the top job. Not immediately, but not too far into future either. Surely FG can't be that stupid.

If FF spent as much time on policy as they spend on bullshit manufacturing- the electorate under 60 years of age might consider them again

Sure they would - he's such a vote getting force of nature!!! Big and small Micky quite happy with status quo I'd say!!
Only person in South Central that'd like to see Simon f**k off to Brussels is Jerry Buttimer.
FG might want to move him on because there's a possibility in next election that Jerry will take his seat anyway and FG will have the ignominy of seeing the tainiste lose his seat!

No way will Phil Hogan get a second term in Brussels. He only got the job anyway because he was a mate of Enda Kenny. Hogan played a key role in suppressing a heave by the Brutons against him, many moons ago.

Also, FG wanted Hogan out of the way after the Irish Water fiasco. Hogan put his mate Tierney in charge there, with disastrous results.

Kenny's influence is gone and so is Hogan's.
