Default JNNR: Foinse now has 195,000 readers

(English below)

195,000 léitheoir ag Foinse, Príomhnuachtán Náisiúnta na Gaeilge

Tá foireann Foinse ag ceiliúradh an tseachtain seo – tar éis figiúirí iontacha a léiríonn go bhfuil siad ag mealladh tuilleadh léitheoirí chun nuachtán Gaeilge a léamh.

Taispeánann figiúirí oifigiúla ó The Joint National Newspaper Readership (JNNR) go bhfuil 195,000 duine ag léamh Foinse gach seachtain, níos mó léitheoirí ná aon pháipéar Gaeilge riamh!

Bhí Eagarthóir Foinse Emer Ní Chéidigh iontach sásta leis na torthaí inniu.

Dúirt sí: “Tá foireann Foinse ar bís leis an taighde tábhachtach seo. Táimid ag obair go han-chrua le 15 mhí anuas, ní amháin chun Foinse a thabhairt ar ais, a bhíodh ag díol níos lú ná 5,000 cóip, ach chun staid nua a chruthú ina léann na mílte mílte duine anois é.”

Dúirt Michael Denieffe, Eagarthóir Bainistíochta an Irish Independent, gur rath dochreidte iad figiúirí JNNR do Foinse.

“Tá táirge den chéad scoth cruthaithe do dhaltaí agus dóibh siúd a bhfuil grá acu don Ghaeilge de bharr na comhpháirtíochta seo idir Foinse agus an Irish Independent. Tá áit nua ar fáil chun fógraíocht a dhéanamh chomh maith,” a dúirt sé.

Nótaí:

· Bíonn Foinse ar fáil saor in aisce leis an Irish Independent ar an gCéadaoin.

· Tá Emer Ní Chéidigh, eagarthóir Foinse, ar fáil le cur faoi agallamh ag 086-0414335.

· Tá tuilleadh eolais ar fáil ó nuacht@foinse.ie nó ó 091-593775.

Foinse, the National Irish Language Newspaper has 195,000 readers

Foinse is celebrating this week - after recording stunning figures in attracting readers to an Irish language newspaper.

Official readership figures from a survey carried out by the Joint National Newspaper Readership (JNNR) show that an incredible 195,000 people are now reading Foinse every week, more readers than any Irish language newspaper ever!

Foinse Editor Emer Ni Chéidigh is delighted with the results.

She said: "The staff of Foinse are over the moon with this important research. We have worked very hard over the past 15 months, not just to bring back Foinse which used to sell less than 5,000 copies to a position where it is now read by tens of thousands more people.”

Michael Denieffe, Managing Editor of the Irish Independent, said the JNNR readership figures were a stunning success for Foinse . “The unique collaborative effort between Foinse and the Irish Independent has delivered a first class product for students and lovers of the Irish language as well as creating a novel platform for advertisers” he said.

Notes:

· Foinse is free with the Irish Independent every Wednesday

· Foinse’s Editor, Emer Ní Chéidigh is available for interview 086-0414335.

Fair play to Foinse - the Irish Examiner seems to be the only national broadsheet not to publish anything in Irish.

The Examiner seems to have no problem giving column inchs to people like Fergus Finlay & Ivan Yates, but not to Irish.
