Gibson stinks of having an air of entitlement. I don't doubt that Trap's manner was abrupt and lacking compassion but Gibson has never looked like he wanted to make a position his own on the Irish team.

God knows we need him, but he'd want to take his head out of his arse and show what he can do rather than moaning about Green.

Well he does say he regrets not playing so maybe thats a start.

Gibson would want to lose this 'woe is me' attitude. On the basis of this article, he effectively threw away two years of his international career on a whim because he didn't see playing time in a dead-rubber game against Italy, and other, as he sees it, less talented players did.

Either you want to play for your country or you don't. He goes on and on about playing every week for Everton as if that should entitle him to play for Ireland. But so too did Coleman, who didn't even make the Euros squad, but kept his head down, made himself available and is now probably our best player.

Time to grow up, Darron lad. Or as Dan says, take your head out of your arse for a start.

It seems he wanted to play for his country but not the manager at the time

Now that the slate is clean, I'd like to see the following XI:

Westwood

Coleman
O'Shea
Dunne
Wilson

McCarthy
Andrews
Gibson

McGeady
Keane
Stokes

To be honest, I don't see a future for Glenn Whelan but I'd still keep either himself or Green in the squad for tactical reasons. I'd probably have Andy Reid in the squad, plus Stevie E if/when he can nail down a spot on the Stoke team.

Despite my understanding of why Trap used the likes of Sammon and Cox (pre-Euro 2012), I wouldn't have them anywhere near the squad again unless there's a crisis.

his comments imply that if the next manager doesn't pick him, he'll do the exact same. surely not great for squad morale, but we do need him, so the issue may not arise.

Luke Chambers of Ipswich Town has made himself available.

Also i'd say we might see a few new faces in the next squad.Granny rule players.

By the way Andrews should not be near our team imo.

Can't really be looking to the future and including Dunne and Keane imo.

You can't just look to the future for the sake of it. It has to be done gradually and it's an unfortunate fact that these two are still (even in decline) the best in their position. Stokes is probably our brightest prospect in terms of replacing Keane but I'd have them playing together for a while first. I suppose the same could be done with Clark alongside Dunne and Coleman could play in midfield or O'Shea moved to LB and Wilson dropped.

We'll be missing Dunne and O'Shea at least against Germany, so I dread to think who'll be in there. Clark plus ANother.

It's not ideal but he brings physicality to the midfield that we need. I wouldn't trust McCarthy and Gibson on their own as I could see them drifting out of games. Andrews/Green/Whelan/name somebody else, take your pick.
