Dunno what he used but it's like he just popped it out of the middle of the steering wheel. Something woke me up about two seconds before the alarm went off (probably the glass smashing). So annoying. But alas, could be worse.

They are being targeted for airbag theft. Tonight as soon as my partners car alarm went off I jumped up and looked out the window. Of course the fucker was gone. He had smashed the drivers window and taken the airbag from the steering wheel in seconds.

As I lie awake guarding the car I've been googling into it a bit more. The guard mentioned this type of theft is becoming more common lately. I'm hoping a wheel lock might be a deterrent.

Gardaí suspect export gang in theft of BMW airbags

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

GARDAÍ believe a highly professional gang may be exporting airbags stolen from expensive 5-series BMWs.
A senior garda said that in the last couple of weeks a number of such cars had been targeted by the gang operating in parts of Co Cork.

The gang struck again yesterday morning in Glounthaune in what gardaí described “as a very professional job”.

They broke into three 5-series BMWs, none of which was more than three years old.

I heard on the radio that BMW cars (I think) are susceptible to having their electronic keys cloned easily. Or something.
