Thumbs up Roy Harper Live at St Lukes 29/9/2016

Saw it announced earlier on his FB, this is some seriously good news.

Roy is celebrating his 75 birthday and 50 years in recording.

A musicians, musician as they say, Roy Harper has brushed wings with the best of em. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Kate Bush, Pete Townsend and Anathmea to name but a few. He is just doing 6 gigs, this one was only announced today. The tour starts off in Clonakilty (long sold out) and the rest are in the UK. I'm particularly looking forward to checking out Live At Saint Lukes for the first time (hangs head in shame).

This man is living history and his latest album from 2013 Man An Myth is a masterpiece imo.

An unmissable gig, I can not stress this enough.

When Led Zeppelin broke up, Jimmy page stopped playing guitar for 18 months, he said when he picked up the guitar after that, he was having problems changing cords. Roy Harper was very much instrumental in getting Jimmy back on the bandwagon.

Interesting video here of Roy & Jimmy Page jamming out songs in the mountains for an album to be entitled, Whatever Happened To Jugula, released in 1984 and recorded in west Cork.

Both lads are pretty stoned out of there heads in this footage tbf.

There is another version of this, where Jimmy Page falls off the rock he's sitting on but it's edited out of this one and I can't find the full one.

Pictured below, the album was done like red rizzla papers and the 12 inch single Elizabeth done in green rizzla.

Exclamation

You really need to experience Roy Harper live to enjoy the atmospheric sounds he creates.

This is probably one of my favourite, Frozen Moment played with just one cord, from 2011.

This song, "Hope" appears on the album, Whatever Happened To Jugla, although this album was written & recorded with Jimmy Page, this song was written by David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) a good friend of Roys. David originally wrote this song for one of his first 2 solo albums but was unable to come up with suitable lyrics for it (Dave was not much of a lyricist truth be told).

Dave approached Roy Harper and Pete Townsend and ask would they be interested in writing lyrics for the song. Long story short, Roy wrote lyrics but Dave didn't think the lyrics would suit him personally and the song latter to be entitled "Hope" ended up on Jugla. Afaik though, Jimmy Page didn't play on this particular song and Nick Harper, Roys son, ended up playing the guitar on this track. (I'm open to correction on this one though)
