It's not exactly that simple. Plug in your kindle and open up Calibre . Drag in the files you want to add to the kindle, select them and click the "Convert Books" button and convert them into MOBI files then click the "Transfer" button and you're done
eh I do it all the time on a macbook and I don't have Calibre. You can also email pdf's etc to your kindle and they show up under documents. I will check out this Calibre though, cheers

Just right click the book in Calibre and then 'Send to Device' and conversion is done automatically.
