You got me blackie.

He played before my time but i honestly believed that Paddy Crerand was a defender who also played in the middle.

Honest mistake, one which i hold my hands up to making.

Not very good.

First year beaten by Liverpool in the first round 5-0 on aggregate.

Second year went out on penalties in the first round.

Third year beaten on away goals in the Q/F.

They did however beat the European Cup winners Hamburg in the final of the European Super Cup and still remain the only Scottish club to have won two European trophies. Both won under Fergie.

Fergie "underachieved " winning it twice. Talk about circumcances though and you get the usual childish "so you want different rules for manyoo" from the wumslappers. Drowns out any real and decent discussion on here but it is what it is.

Thing is though I know far more about football that they do. So when we look back at that era and see AJAX. 3 european cups in a row. With mainly home grown players and without massive resources.

Indeed the year after Jock Stein left Celtic a tiny club called Notts forest went and won it. And then won it again. Not one super power of european football has done that in the last 20 years of Fergie's era.

All things in context.

Fergie and Stein were both greats in their eras but either one underachieved or they both did.

You can't have it both ways.
Kd: "thing is, I know more about football than they do"

So AF said he underachieved in Europe and you say he didn't. I suppose you know more about football than Fergie too. Pmsl.

You have a decent knowledge, Kd but reel yourself in fella.

Heh heh.

Seriosly though, any comments on the points made in the post?

edit: btw none of us know more about football than a man like Fergie, I think thats a given. Doesn't mean we can't discuss his legacy and even disagree with him.
