Default campaign for liscencing laws site

came accross this www.giveusthenight.com

show ur support for the campaign to change liscencing hours to a continental style, in the hope of helping to curb binge drinking. this would mean serving till 3.30 and clubs running till 6am. it also means more partying n music - well somehwere in ireland anyways

Give Us The Night Mandate

Here is The Give Us The Night mandate. Three suggestions for change that would modernise Ireland’s night life and the industry that supports and surrounds it.

6am Closing

To bring Ireland up to date with the rest of Europe, the country's
nightclubs should be allowed to serve alcohol until at least 3.30am
and stay open until 6am, with the provision of serving non alcoholic
drinks (tea, coffee, water, minerals etc.). These opening hours could
be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Sequential Closing

Ireland should operate a nationwide system of sequential closing. Bars and clubs would close at agreed, graduated times throughout the night, encouraging a safer environment on the streets in the early hours, making the flow of people easier to accommodate for policing, hospital and food/service workers and easing the strain on the transport services.

A Nightclub has its own legal identity

Ireland’s nightclubs should have their own separate legal identity, as distinct from public houses or ‘dancehalls’ as is the current 1935 legislation. This legislation should reflect the reality of a modern nightclub, improving conditions for those who attend them and workers whose livelihoods are linked to the nightclub industry.

It was announced on April 16th 2005 that the government is currently considering the introduction of a Night Club licence and the introduction of a new “café-bar” type licence. This is an important step in bringing Irish Licensing in line with our European neighbours and towards addressing modern Irish nightlife culture. We support and welcome this move in principle.

If you agree with our mandate then please sign up to our website. This campaign can only move forward with your support.

We have already proved that popular opinion matters. We signed up over 21,000 people in 4 days to protest the Gardai plans to shut down all pubs and clubs at 1:30am and the plan was rejected.

This time we want a lot more than 21,000 people. A large database of names is a powerful tool to lobby with and if you would like to see a more liberal, laid back and frankly modern attitude towards nightlife in this country, that so many of us enjoy on our summer holidays, then sign up here. That’s all. Your name and your contact details then we do the donkey work!

Thanks for your support

Fuck, I hate reading shit like this, Im not being negative, but there's as much chance of this happening than there is of grass and hash being legalized in Ireland.
Binge drinking generates a lot more money and fast.
If you have people relaxing into a bar that can serve till very very late, like in europe, they will tend not to drink more........if you think im wrong, let me know how many piss heads you see on the streets of places like france, germany(except the october fest of course), spain et.c.
Compare this to where drink is controlled a lot more, i.e. scandinavia, Ireland, England, Scotland, and you'll see the people in these countries are famous for being pissheads.
Look at good friday, everybody goes mental the day before in the offy buying booze like it was the end of world or something.

It will never ever happen.
A lot of clubs and bars are situated near residental areas, so residents will not have it.
Don't waste your fucking time, go out and support the greedy publican instead..

Keep the faith anything can happen if these twats had an ounce of common sense they could clean up the streets and cut down binge-drinking in one fell swoop. As the generations change there is more chance of it happening but we have to support these causes now.

This would not apply for every pub/club in every part of the country, so plenty of pubs would still have the same closing times, it would not be compulsary. and both england and scotland have laws allowing clubs later opening, till 6 in the morning, which is used so that scrapes that part of your argument. and in all fairness, it IS a really lazy negative attitude, it takes upwards of 30 seconds to put your name on it, not a lot of time to waste really. So what harm can it do, unless of course you enjoy the site of grand parade on a saturday night.

Its so expensive to run clubs and stuff anyway that loads of them are not gonna be interested in paying security/bar staff etc the extra few hours work and will happily trade until earlier times. Staggered times is the solution to everything thats wrong with the licencing laws.
