Default asst band news

Autamata have their new album, Short Stories, released on N4 this Friday (16 September). The following day signals the first of a series of dates around the country (17 Sept, Cyprus Ave, Cork).

Short Stories is the follow up to the band’s My Sanctuary which spawned a host of soundtrack inclusions for both ads and films on both sides of the Atlantic as well as a couple of classic videos (for “Jive County” and “Jellyman”) courtesy of the D.A.D.D.Y. collective.

Meanwhile “Out Of This” from their first album features twice in the new Andie MacDowell film “Tara Road” (adapted from Maeve Binchy’s book). The film premieres in Ireland at the end of September.

Bell X1 have announced details of their first single, “Bigger Than Me” on 23 September. Backed with “Still Selling Shoes” and a live video of “My First Born For A Song”.

Frontman Paul Noonan describes the single as “a rant that wandered off into how insignificant we are, I am, it all is…there’s so much going on of true value and relevance, love and shrapnel…it’s all bigger than me.”

The band’s 3rd album, Flock (Island) will be released on 14 October and the band have announced a 13-date Irish tour (kicking off in Limerick on Thursday 13 October) in support of the release. The album will be released in the UK in the New Year.

Seminal Irish band The Stars Of Heaven have their two albums Sacred Heart Hotel and Speak Slowly re-issued on CD by Independent Records on 21st October.

One of the more credible propositions to emerge from Dublin during the post U2 boom, The Stars were signed to Rough Trade, with their hipness enhanced by the fact that the late John Peel recorded no less than four BBC “Peel Sessions” with the band.

Their championing of influential but then obscure acts like Big Star and The Flying Burrito Brothers (and the solo work of their leadmen Alex Chilton and Gram Parsons respectively) also enhanced their standing amongst fans. If every fan of The Velvet Underground is said to have joined a band, every fan of the Stars seemed to become a journalist. Both albums will be available with their original artwork and Sacred Heart Hotel will come packaged with the “Holyhead” E.P.

Emmett Tinley, who played a Spiegel Tent headline show as part of this year’s Dublin Fringe Festival and featured live in this week’s TV coverage of the recent Festival of World Culture, will be supporting Mark Geary on all his dates across the country in October (see LIVE) for full deatails.

Emmett released his debut solo album, Attic Faith (Independent Records), in April – A cross between Jeff Buckley, Ben Christophers and the guys from Turin Brakes…Beautiful but sad – like a weeping willow in Autumn.

Eagle-eared fans should be able to catch a brand new song, “Stop”, on radio stations around the country. They will also be able to hear “Stop” and “Harder” (from the last album) on the new Samantha Mumba film “Boy Eats Girl” which is released at the end of the month.
