Default Broadband Advice

My office is using Eircoms Broadband Enhanced that's a 4MB Download 256KB Upload with a contention ratio of 24:1.
We backup all data over the internet but it takes too long with the 256KB upload. Can anyone advise me of other providers that offer a higher upload capacity without costing too much more that the €169+vat that Eircom charge.

Thanks!

change* the contention ratio, and get a bit to get more upload speed?

They should be able to adjust it or at least give you a better rate, cause 4MB down and 256 up is not so good with all the uploads. If you can some how get through to their tech department (not their call center folk who arent told anything). Perchance somebody here knows how to change this manually?

No, you should not.
Have a look at what Irish Broadband's customers say:

scribeth KON: "change* the contention ratio, and get a bit to get more upload speed?"

methinks not. Contention ratio is the max number of users per server side modem
The problem is the Asymmetric in ADSL (Asymmetric DSL) which gives 4M down
but only 256k upload max. You need an ISP with a different micx or with SDSL.

You'll have to move to a better package and pay more to get a better
contention ratio. It's not something that'll be done over the phone.

2. What are the benefits of upgrading speed or contention?
Upgrading your speed lets you download large files faster. You will also be able to view sites with multimedia content such as BBCi.

Contention at your local telephone exchange is important if your exchange is used heavily. If you experience slowdowns during peak times on a 50:1 broadband product, upgrading to 20:1 is one way to improve your speeds. Before doing this you can check your exchanges current capacity status and find out if BT have plans to upgrade your exchange.

This is from a non related site to Ireland, but does refer to contention ratio changes.

Default Penis Costume Considered Sexual Harassment

The parents of 14-year-old James Watkins agree he deserves school discipline for wearing a penis costume outside a dance at Steilacoom High School [Washington]. But they want a "sexual harassment" note dropped from his school record.
The Pioneer Middle School eighth grader and his parents agree the prank Saturday was wrong, but they say he did not sexually harass anyone.

He was suspended for three days and his father Mark says the notice says it was for "sexual harassment, misbehavior at school-sponsored event, disruptive conduct and dress and appearance."

James Watkins says he was just trying to be funny, and others were laughing and having their picture taken with him. He complied when teachers asked him to take off the costume.
