I dunno, I was at the game last night and while it was bad, I wouldn't blame Staunton. A lot of players didn't perform, and it was at the end of the season.

and at least he's willing to experiment a bit in meaningless friendlies. And he did switch around the formation during the game and it seemed to work.

Brian Kerr won every friendly he played(I think anyway, open to correction on that one) but he couldn't beat Israel when it mattered.

Kevin Doyle looked decent enough, and so did McGeady when he came on.

Dunphy described it as 'tactically illiterate' just because Stan tried a bit of experimentation. He could be on a hiding to nothing if the saner parts of the media are as impatient.

Brian Kerr was tactically illiterate because he NEVER experimented in the friendlies. Played the same team every time.

I'd rather we lost a few friendlies and experimented with a few different line-ups and formations than end up like Kerr to be honest.

I thought there was definitely encouraging signs from a few of the younger players.

I thought Andy Reid looked sharp when he came on, and I also thought that Jason Byrne was able to compete at this level.

But as has been mentioned above, at least it was a friendly, and at least he experimented. I was cringing for Kevin Doyle when he kept saying in his post match interview that "they were better then us, and that's why they are going to the world cup and we're not." He said that twice!

So, in summary, maybe it was not such a bad thing to lose this friendly, it shows that we cannot just expect to win, and Chile weren't that bad on the night, it wasn't as if we were beaten by a weak team.
