If they can make their money back on that big time Charlie then they should bite their hand off.

Aye.

No one is going to murder him or cut him up. They’re just telling him to fuck off.

The cunt.

All talk about Tranmere’s pitch suggests it’s in a right state and should act as a great leveller.

Good news for Utd if so.

Many Utd players have clauses which significantly reduce their wages in seasons where there's no Cl football.

But it would only be a partial mitigant.

It would be insane to consider that.

BTW I get the logic in investing big in Jan to make the difference in a tight 4th place race. There's not much precedent for it actually working in the past - but it could well work this time.

I'm just offering a perspective on why the ~£100m outlay might not be a "no brainer".

When assessing Fernandes' output you have to consider the lower quality of his current league. The "what if he was English" logic is flawed.
Its a business decision. Quite simply without him they have absolutely no chance of champions league football, with him they may (or may not) finally get a bit of creativity into that final third and give themselves a fighting chance. Everything points to doing the deal and taking that punt. The financial implications of not signing him could be greater, coupled with the perception of how this looks on the outside to anyone with a functional brain.

There is also no precedent for a team in 4th having lost 8 games by the end of January. Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs all have their own problems. If you want to bring the likes of Wolves & Sheffield Utd into it, realistically they shouldn't have a strong enough squad to snatch 4th. Utd should be counting themselves lucky that they are still in a position to do something about it and capitalise while they can.

The "If he was English" logic may be flawed, but it doesn't mean its not true. Lets wait and see what figures will be touted for Grealish & Maddison in the Summer. Also as I have said previously, nobody would expect Fernandes to carry those numbers into the PL.
