The reason Heineken tastes better in Amsterdam or for that matter up north, is because the stuff we drink here is .6 % less alcohol. It changes the taste.
Nanny state.

Amstel on draught in Holland is quite nice too.

That's only to protect you from yourself m8.

If the beer you were supping wasn't as weak as cricket's piss you'd be making an even higger foolah of yourself on the local talkpage scene than you already are.

Leaving all of the IPAs and craft beer carry on aside, there is a big difference in price and quality of whats sitting on shelves though.. no point saying there isn't. Some of the more expensive beers cost more because they are better, some because morketing has decided they are a 'premium' brand and all that shite - others like Perlenbacher are great value regardless of price

I get where Carmona is coming from, I buy beer I like the most because it's unlikely I'll end up drinking any more than a few of them on any day. My absolute favourites at home is a weissbier so I like Weihenstephaner and Schneider weisse Tap 1, and theres a clatter of Heineken and Hoegaarden always there as well

but nothing beats a lovely creamy pint of Beamish at home

For someone who knows their wine HonkY I would have given you credit for not falling into this particular trap.

It's basic economics, namely snob value. A higher priced product that has a low practical value.

Buying a Vietnamese import beer may incur a slight cost but there is no essential difference between that and the 6 Lomzas for a tenner in the offie.

It's marketing and anyone telling you otherwise is talking shite about a low end product.
