Default Plan for new 5,000-seat arena in Cork

From the Echo today:

A global leader in the music industry has revealed talks are underway to develop a new concert venue in Cork.

Live Nation, the music promoters behind the O2 venue in Dublin, said talks are ongoing to secure a 5,000-capacity arena in Cork.

Mike Adamson, chief executive of Live Nation Ireland and chief executive of the O2 arena, said that discussions were taking place with developers about the project.

He said that the company hoped to build a venue with capacity for up to 5,000 people.

could be good for the local economy a 5000 capacity venue will be able to attract and presumebly sell out the same type of bands as the o2 attracts

surly this would be a good thing for cork....the marque always does well every year. brings in revenue to the city as well as all the jobs that will be creayed during the construction...

watch now the council will shoot this down!

I read somewhere before (I've been looking for a link but as of yet I haven't found it), that the marquee was/is not meant to be a permanent fixture and that 2012 will be its last year in cork. Maybe this venue will be its permanent replacement

There is no reason why the live at the marquee couldnt continue at this new venue if it is built.
