modding an xbox

getting a cheap (60 euro) xbox from a buddy , it's not modded. i want to use it as an mp3 player / emulator box ( mame , snes , megadrive, n64 etc.)
anyone have any expierence with these ?
do i need a soft mod or a mod chip, and can someone tell me the difference?
with a mod chip is soldered or unsolodered the way to go ? is their a difference?

been a sony playstation person all along , but couldnt turn this bargain down.


p.s. i also want a bigger hard disk fitted ( i have the disk already , a 500gb one)

i know feck all about this really, but i do know a few people who do.

i think you need to get the mod chip to get the larger drive to work. there is soldering involved but it's real easy, depends on the chip i suppose, but compared to chipping a ps2 it's easy anyway. you can fix a chip-connector-deally over the existing chip and then you solder the modchip on to this. most of the ones i've seen do this, and come with a button, so you can go from modded to non-modded just by pressing a button.

i think software is needed for the mp3 playing and all that, and you need the chip to get the software.

i don't know what i'm talking about really.

softmodding is a option,

but if you want the most out of the xbox, chip it.

you cant put 2 * 250 gig drives into a softmodded xbox!

dj sparks soft modded mine. works a charm now.plays copied games and dvds etc. also has at least 5 games on the hard disc. job like

He only opened up the extra 3 gig on the 5 gig it had already so. Didn't replace the HD at all?
