why do we have to follow these countries?
we are paying for water because this country was ruined by our 2000e a week pension politicans and we had to be bailed out by the IMF and co.
it's entirely unfair.
you seem to enjoy being fucked up the arse by the government.

You chose to live there.

If the council decided that there was a need for street lighting in your area the property tax would pay for this.

A Fianna Fail giveaway Government abolished rates in the 1970's as a vote winner without a thought as to who was going to pay for bins etc. That policy was a proven disaster.

Your planning contribution of €18,000 was for the provision of services and not the maintenance of the same services and there is not a council on the planet that can grit every single road / boreen during a prolonged cold spell.

Everybody wants, roads, pavements, public lighting, hospitals, natural gas supply, schools, post offices etc but no one wants to pay for them.

We are only being brought into line with every other European State.

Taxes are a price you pay for a civilised society

Eh they have a broader tax base and have not had major property collapse / dependency on taxes generated from selling houses to each other for years all supported by lax banking regulation and gombeen politicians and having the boom/bust economic mayhem cycle ?

As usual Ireland Inc. is being dragged kicking and screaming into normal international best practice.

Gladly brainwashed then to the same standards as Scandanavia etc.

Have you reported the burst pipes ?

Have the council repaired / replaced them ?

For free ?

Now if a country has an annual 9 billion current account deficit where do you think that the revenue to pay for public services can come from ?

Taxes maybe ?

Just a guess.

Were they actually properly repaired before ?

Do they actually require huge investment to bring them up to standard ?

A creaking Victorian water system not being able to cope with modern demands of both domestic and industrial users ?

It is fair if we all pay our share and it works.

We could stick our heads in the sand and pretend that we can pay little taxes have great public services, pay ourselves small fortunes and borrow loads and have another party if you want.

What could possibly go wrong ?
