Default Official Flat Racing Thread

Anyone got any ante-post fancies for Royal Ascot?

I'll be heading along on the Friday so I'll catch the Coronation Stakes + Commonwealth Cup.

Odd one.

Oisin Murphy, the leading Flat jockey this season, was stood down from riding at Salisbury yesterday after failing a breath test. The timing, so close to Royal Ascot, is dreadful for the 23-year-old Irishman, who is the rising star of Flat racing and seen by many as the successor to Frankie Dettori, the celebrated three-times champion jockey.

While the failed test will dent Murphy’s reputation it is unlikely to diminish his chances of a first jockeys’ title. He was forced to miss five rides yesterday but, unless he was a long way over the alcohol limit, he will not receive any further sanction.

Perhaps still over the limit from the night before? Or he's a bit of a Johnny Murtagh?

I read somewhere that he was teetotal, so who knows.

Looking through his planned rides for Ascot I was a little underwhelmed by the quality of his rides - given he leads the flat jockey rankings for the year. Nothing shorter than 8/1.

Of his rides these are the two I was tempted by.

Robin Of Navan (Royal hunt Cup)
Dashing Willoughby (Queens Vase)

Best of luck punters this week. Not for me, don't really have a grá for the flat. Have a brother-in-law and he equates Royal Ascot to Cheltenham. So he's buzzing today. Hope ye clean them out.
