I can only find the list of players that actually played, but that's not to say someone was on the subs bench.

The Irish squad v USA

Ireland: Gerry Peyton, Chris Morris (Denis Irwin 78’), Kevin Moran, Mick McCarthy, Terry Phelan, Ray Houghton, Roy Keane (Alan McLoughlin 78’), Paul McGrath, Andy Townsend, Steve Staunton (Tommy Coyne 60’), Niall Quinn

The Irish squad v Italy

Ireland: Bonner, Steve Staunton, O.Leary, McCarthy (McLoughlin 46’), Irwin (Peyton 66’), Houghton, Townsend, McGrath, McGoldrick (Phelan 80’), Niall Quinn (Tommy Coyne 72’), Aldridge (Kelly 78’)

The Irish squad v Portgual

Ireland: Peyton, Steve Staunton, McCarthy, O. Leary, Morris, Houghton, McLoughlin, McGrath, Phelan (McGoldrick 89’), Kelly (Tommy Coyne 58’), Niall Quinn (Aldridge 87’)

As gooner said 'There was a guy who played in America', Joseph Lapira played in America and got a cap against Ecuador and based on the highlighted line that is who I presume he was thinking of.

And you are correct, it was not 1992, I posted up the players who played in the US Cup in 1992 but for you, here you go again:

The Irish squad v USA

Ireland: Gerry Peyton, Chris Morris (Denis Irwin 78’), Kevin Moran, Mick McCarthy, Terry Phelan, Ray Houghton, Roy Keane (Alan McLoughlin 78’), Paul McGrath, Andy Townsend, Steve Staunton (Tommy Coyne 60’), Niall Quinn

Only from doing quick research, Galway's Johnny Glynn seemed to have trained with the squad and did not make it to the squad on match days.

You'd think Jack would have given him a cap after all that
