You took exception to my interpretation of homeless people being sectioned in a blizzard as being 'sad' - fair play to you.

If that's how it came across, fair enough. That wasn't my intention, nor was it to lecture you. It was just giving a different take on the same news.

I wasn't trying to be argumentative.

You've lost me John. But I was not trying to lecture you.

The legal status of the people being sectioned was interesting though. A psychiatrist on the news had said it's a difficult decision, and even for a professional it's hard to determine somebody's capacity to make a decision. I thought it might be an interesting point to discuss, that's all.

Btw, today Ireland was due to ratify the UN convention on the rights of people with disabilities. As I understand it, under this, everybody has capacity to make decisions. Everyone will have the right proper assistance to make decisions, as to their will and preference. It moves away from "best interests". It'll be interesting to see how this works. It puts a lot of onus on the state to provide all kinds of services.

Social care in Ireland is better than 95% of the countries on the planet.

Anyone dissatisfied with politics in Ireland should consider running for office.

What could you do for a man like this? Offer him a few blankets? Sleeping bag? It's coming into a bad time of the year weather wise.
Has anybody any info on this guys past?
