Default Non-denominational schools Cork

I'll probably be moving back to Cork next year with the two smallies and I'd like to send them to a non-religious school. Does anyone know of any? don't remember there being any.

I'd be working in town so we wouldn't want to be living very far from the city centre.

I've found out about the Educate Together primary schools (although they're multi-denominational rather than non-, but maybe that's as close as I'll get) does anybody know anything about them in terms of the standard of teaching etc? The one on Grattan St or the one in Carrigaline would probably be the more likely ones to send them to.

I can't find any multi- or non-denominational secondary schools though, does anyone know of any? (The eldest is 8 so I'd probably want to be putting his name down for a secondary school fairly quickly after we get back I'd assume?)

I wouldn't send them to a fee-paying school.

Standard of education isn't meant to be as good as a religious school. A friend of mine is an atheist and she was telling me this about her own child. I'm pretty sure there's no non-religious secondary but you just don't partake in religion classes, it's different because in primary school everything is about religion whereas in secondary it's confined to religion class.

Why do parents feel the need the send their children to these schools? Religion doesn't even play a big part in first-level education today...
