Currently togging out for Hamilton. I have been hearing the dreaded "next big thing" tag being associated with this 16 year old's name now for a few months.
Don't suppose anybody has seen him play, or have a bit of info on him? I suppose its always good news that he intends to play for Ireland. I am hearing Liverpool, rangers and even Barca are meant to be interested. Hard to know if there is any truth to that or if its all hype by the media and Hamilton FC.
Should we be keeping an eye out for him in the future?

Today was his 100th start for Hamilton.
Is he a proper bona fide Ireland player now? I thought that once you got capped at U21 level then there was no turning back as it were.

The lad has been turning in some solid performances for Wigan, shame he got injured last week but hopefully its not too serious.

New Jock boss Craig Levein has asked donkey Gary Caldwell to use his club connection in trying to get McCarthy change his mind about playing for Ireland. According to the man himself, McCarthy to Caldarse he isn't changing his mind

Think the abuse he got at away grounds in the SPL over the past couple of seasons helped him make up his mind.
Hopefully Trap gives him a cap ASAP

we could use another player in the middle of the park.
have steven reid been playing much since returning from injury? i see gary deegan is doing ok since moving to coventry so he could be one to look at aswell. he's only 22.
edit: i see reid's gone on loan to QPR. hmmm.

More to do with gaining his match fitness/sharpness than anything else. I think though this last injury has put paid to his best days.

I am not sure if Reid is good enough to break up the Whelan/Andrews partnership at the moment. They have been improving as games go on.
McCarthy though is a different story. He will surely get a run in one of the upcoming friendlies if fit.Give this guy two years and he could be a top player.

If McCarthy breaks into the Irish team then it'll be in a wide position, most likely on the left.

They work well together and have developed a good understanding.Reid might be a better player than both but it does not mean the team would work better with him partnering one of Andrews/Whelan.

Sadly, I think he's always going to be under threat of serious injury so it's best to consider it a bonus if he's fit and available.
