I wouldn't be a Fianna Failer or anyrthing, but i find the guy to be fairly genuine....he may come across as a bit of a bumbling blustering idiot at times, but he's certainly no worse than has gone before, and he's a personable fellow, even handing out free weed to George Bush.....

He promised the people of Cork that the new airport would start operations "debt free."
He is a liar and he has shafted Cork infrastructural projects yet again.

Well, in fairness, ANYone running in an election of any sort would surely do the same ??? Doing their best to raise their profile as high as possible coming up to the event...if that involves kissing babies, kissing Mary McAleese or even kissing Mary harney, then I'm sure any politician would do it to get a few more votes !!!
Ask resident PROC TD - Dan Boyle. I'm sure he'd agree.
I'm no great fan of Bertie either, but to be honest (something most politicians cannot comprehend, never mind aspire to) we've had worse..... more devious and underhand.

that really isnt setting the bar high is it.
I mean christ if you were going to go by that attitide, then pinochet, Franco, Stalin , Hitler and the biys are the yardstick for poor governance in Chile, Spain,Russia and Germany.
We should demand at the very least that our leaders in high office are not corrupt populists who rule through the cult of personality.

Id take Rabbitte or Kenny any day of the week over Bertie.
For leadership based on personality, sleaze and no clear direction he is the master.
He reminds me of a dodgy second hand car salesman.

Enda can be a funny fucker. I like that in a potential leader.
Plus, he looks good in a suit and can have an austere air. Bertie looks permanently crumpled and Pat Rabbitte's head is enormous. Seriously. Have a look at it. It's gigantic.
Enda's is not.
These, and not policies or honesty, are the traits I look for in a leader.

I'd say Bertie is cute enough to know his own limitations ....he is not the most articulate and lacks any kind of real presence. He gives the impression of the red-faced happy uncle at drinking up time in the local....kind of endearing to some and unlikely to rock the party boat too much...this latter point endears him to many others within his party who are in the political game as much for personal gain as anything else.
Granted, Rabbitte and Kenny would be more Statemanlike, especially Pat, who i would regard as a fairly shrewd operator who would not pander so pathetically to visitors like Bush, Blair et al but I doubt they will get the chance after this election either !!!

What?! Bertie was the only man Haughey and latterly Slasher Reynolds feared. Don't let the "mid-level executive" look or the public speaking fool you, the man's sharp as a new needle. He came out of his payments and blank cheques trial-by-finance smelling of roses and higher in the polls - you think that was just luck?
Bertie is one of the most politically astute men in the country and can be enormously charismatic. It's just a shame he's an utter, utter, utter cunt.

Yep, ywas very good this morning i have to say.
On a related note - i was talking to someone at the weekend about whether politics should be taught in school. There is a huge amount of voter apathy in this country and i think that alot of it stems from ignorance. People genuinly dont seem to know what the parties stand for or how their policies will affect their daily lives.
What do the proc think?

The man couldn't beat 14 year olds in a debating competition but he gives off the air of the bumbling uncle, fond of an oul drop or two, but harmless enough to get away with a bit of messing. This is an image I believe he is smart enough to play on so he can get away with some of the stuff someone like Rabbitte couldn't !!!
Plus, he is lucky enough to be at the helm when the country is seeing economic success like never before...that should be enough to avoid any seismic shifts in voting patterns in the coming election, and ensure that the Good Ship FF and Captain Bertie ride the crest of the wave until he decides to step down himself in a few years, as he has indicated in recent interviews.

He wants to become a football manager.
I say again though: be wide of any man described by Haughey as cunning and devious. Not just generally cunning and devious, either. According to CJ he's the most clever, the most cunning, the most devious of them all. When you look at the FF company he was keeping when the mayor of Cunnington made that statement, it's high endorsement of just how politically dangerous he can be.

It should be included as an option for the leaving cert...I don't really see the point of including it in any curriculum geared towards younger children, as the really important things would be included in History lessons anyway. have not really encountered any strong opinions on Mary Harney's Health Strategies (or lack of them) from pre-pubescents !!!!! But by 16 or so, people would really have a fair idea of where their thoughts/loyalties would lie with regards to Political matters, and it would definetly be of interest to some....and definetly at least as valuable a subject as many others in terms of evaluation, weighing up pros and cons etc.

I disagree. There are people that i know who still dont seem to have any firm grasp on the underlying policies of the various political parties or the significance of referendums etc etc.
That lack of knowledge is easy to exploit IMO as it makes it easy for someone like McDowell ( boo hiss) to come along with a convincing soundbite and manage to enact terrible terrible laws.

Surely having the option to study it would give them the tools to take whatever knowledge/views they have and mould them into something firmer, or even different ?
My views have certainly changed over the years. This was largely due to my involement in canvassing in my late teens for a local Dail candidate at the time, and my exposure to politics from an early age.
I would have loved the opportunity to study it in depth back then.

Bertie is a knut, simple as that.
He makes me want to puke with his man of the people schtick. Sweet jebus.
This is the man who appointed Ray Burke as Foriegn Minister knowing that he was up to his neck in dodgy payments which eventually saw him jailed in mountjoy.
He appointed Liam Lawlor to the Dail ethics committee. enuf said.
Noel O flynn came out with a thinly veiled apparently racist message about the amount of immigrants on the northside. What does Bertie do? He promotes him to the chair of a dail committee?
Sweet lord God. Is this as good as it gets. For all the weaknesses of Kenny and Rabbittee I'll be voting for them. anthing but more of the same incompetence, arrogance and tolerance for crooked behaviour and corruption from that arsehole Bertie ''man of the people'' (who earns over 250k per annum) Ahern.
