Seen as the fai is nothing more than an old boys club, would irish football be better off setting up a rival organisation, with the backing of the players, and have the international team play for them instead of the fai. Then we might have a chance at getting into a competition more than once every 8 years.

As great an idea as that is, it would probably mean UEFA sanctions and a few years where our international team was banned from competition as I dont think UEFA are much better.
I fully agree with the sentiment though. The current system shows no respect for players or supporters at any level.

meh, as it stand we won't be qualifying for anything for the next couple of years anyway.

Ya, but at least we get to play a few games and show some of the world superpowers, (San Marino, Cyprus etc.) exactly what we're made of.
