I agree.
Inciting crowd trouble should not be allowed especially in light of recent events in Italy.
The Lille assistant coach should face harsh punishment.

I cant see how there was a violation of the law in taking a free kick quickly & the ref giving permission before it was taken.
Lille would be better served keeping quiet considering objects were thrown on to the pitch and the general problem with over-crowding in the stand.
Kinda gutted now I wont be going to the 2nd leg after making arrangements to go.

I think thats for 2 weeks time, after the second leg, and hopefully replayed first leg.
Come on Michel, do it for France

bla bla bla.
What really should happen is that Lille should be thrown out for attempting to bring the game into disrepute by walking off the pitch and creating a hostile atmosphere by almost inciting a riot by fans.
Come on Platini. Do the right thing and kick the Lille cowards out.
Unsporting behaviour needs to be eradicated.

Maybe to do with protocol that any complaint lodged through official channels must be debated in a UEFA meeting.

In fairness the ref was correct in his decision.
Anyone see the Barca players and how quick they were to react to the free kick awarded to the Pool after their keeper picked up the backpass?
Puyol would not move until the ref gestured with the whistle to his mouth that he would not allow the kick to be taken until the whistle was blown.
Lille switched off on Tuesday night and you can be sure that they will not let that happen again.

What would you expect from a man who didn't want to play for his country.

Which as far as I know is against the laws of the game.
Players must instantly retreat 10 yards without assistance from the ref.

The same Ryan Giggs who was honoured honoured for his services to football by the football writers association.
The same Ryan Giggs who has played almost 700 appearances for the only club he has ever turned out for.
Let it go Lamps. Had Johnny Wilkinson done the same thing against Ireland you wouldnt be able to come to work with the size of the horn you would have in your pants.

Puyol didnt stand over the ball, he went to the ref. At least four Barca players stood over the ball. As you well know there are ways around all of this.
Lille were slow to react and were justly punished.

And what the f*ck does getting an award from the likes of Martin Samuel and Paul McCarthy mean?

And the rules around free kicks need to be clarified and possibly changed

The team who is awarded the free kick must have the advantage.
It is written in the rules.
The ref asked if he wanted the whistle to which he replied he did not.
Everything was done by the book.

get a life. your so biased it's not even funny. It was a goal alright even if it was harsh. Those are the rukes. What I found funny was Houghton saying it was 'perfectly ok' when he got booked years ago for taking a free kick too early...in that case the ref didn't say go ahead.

This from a premiership referee.
First you have to deal with the principle of a free-kick.
If the attacking team are fouled then it is they who hold the advantage.
With a free-kick around the penalty area, we always ask the players whether they want it quick or slow.
This is their window of opportunity to surprise the defence.
If they want it quick, then they have given up the right to re-take it, no matter if it hits a defender who's three yards away.
The same goes if they kick it over the bar. They only get one chance.
The flip side is if they want it slow, they can't then take it while I count out the ten yards for the wall.
They must wait for my whistle.
There is nothing in the laws of the game that say we have to indicate for the free-kick to be taken.
It's just like when someone wants to take a free-kick anywhere else on the field.
As long as the ball is stationary and in the right place then the attacking team can take it as quickly as they like.
BTW
Henry did it last season against Chelsea while Cech was lining up the wall. He also did it the season before i think against Villa.

I'm not arguning its validity, the sneaky bastard, its was unsporting. Typical that Henry is in on the act as well.
But why are Uefa investigating if its so black and white, thats what interests me. Come on Michel, do it for fair play.
ps I can't remember now, but did the ref instruct the wall to retreat 10 yards, I know that's what pissed OLeary off back when Henry pulled a similar stunt.

Lille's protest about Giggs sneaky behaviour is the one for Friday. Supposing the ref had insisted that they retreat 10 yards or told the lads to wait for the whistle?
I'm just not sure why Uefa would be doing this is it was all fine and dandy.

Possible violations
European football's governing body said on Wednesday that it was investigating possible violations of binding UEFA safety and security instructions by the host club, as well as the alleged improper conduct of both sets of supporters. The matter will be discussed at the next ordinary meeting of the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body on 22 March.

Especially the naive keeper, who actually moved and tried to save it before he realised he was too late
This story (the appeal) broke yesterday but it didn't even seem worthy of a mention here

From what i have heard from our staff who were at the game, The Utd fans were just as culpable in winding up the situation in lille the other night. The police reacted to what was an onslaught of abuse from pissed up blokes who really should have known better. The allocation of tickets and so on created a massive problem as Utd fans had tickets for some of the home areas and were instead shunted into the away end, which in turn created total confusion outside the ground. An entire busload of UTD fans who had just arrived from Wales with legitimate tickets were told by the French police to 'Fuck off' back in to town and shut them out. By all accounts it was badly managed by the French authorities and the problem was exacerbated by a large portion of the utd contingent who were drunk and abusive towards the locals and the police throughout the day and during the game. All this comes from my colleague here at work who is a Utd fan but was ashamed at the way the fans behaved the other night. As for the game itself, the ref played it correctly.

Lille are a much better team than their reputation suggests.
Had a look at the stats from group stage there on Wednesday, they were well up there. Not to mention they gave as good as they got for much of the game on Tuesday night.
Will be interesting if Utd get a big name tie, it's been a few years. Way things are shaping up, could be an English big name mind!

I saw it in an AOH Cup game about 4/5 years ago alright. We were hammering Mallow Celtic, I turned around as our striker got his 6th goal to take the piss out of the little shit who'd tried to clean me out twice as I made the assist. He threw a strop and they all walked off the field.
Primary school teams, knackers from Mallow and French suffer from this affliction apparently! :D
