Unfortunately it's the one that was planned for Ringsend in Dublin. The one planned for Cork is still going ahead. The fact that the one in Dublin will not now go ahead will mean that the amount of waste available for incineration in Ireland will increase dramatically, thereby making the one in Cork more financially viable.
What a joke.

great news for the people of Cork, after the two closers announced in the past couple of weeks, we need some good employment in Cork...
so how many incinerators does that make it in cork now 7 or 8 isn't it.
well we prefer to call them 'Thermal Oxidizers'
great news... much better that land fill,
and as a nation we DONT recycle

Wouldn't plans for an incinerator be more likely to be burned?
"Metal recycling plant plans scrapped."
On an unrelated matter, proper order that they are not fouling the fine air of this fair city.

Well, we do need incinerators but I think they should all be based in major urban centres seeing as they're so safe and that's where the rubbish is produced.
Incidentally, more diauxins are produced in people burning material in their backyard than would be in a national incinerator system.

Planning permission refused
http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0610/ringaskiddy.html
The board gave four reasons for its decision. It said the application for a municipal waste incinerator was not compatible with the waste management strategy plan for Co Cork.
It also cited the risk of coastal erosion and flooding and the size of the development of the 30-acre site at Ringaskiddy.
The board also directed Indaver Ireland to pay almost €500,000 in costs to several parties including the board and the Cork Harbour Alliance for a Safe Environment (CHASE).
Any appeal of the board's decision has to be by judicial review to the courts.

Brave of you to do it yourself.
I'd say you must have made a lot of friends locally over the issue.

Anyone have any idea what is going to the Dump in Bottlehill? With the County Council having given up waste collection to the private operators, will this huge behemoth of a dump ever even take a single bale of rubbish?

Council Bottles Major Landfill Decision.

We can't landfill and we are not at near the recycling rate to manage our waste, in the immediate term we need to incinerate, until we can manage waste in a sustainable way.

This was a sensible decision by the Board, finally listening to its own Inspectors and the local people. Long saga told well here:

Great, so the incinerator won't be built in Ringaskiddy and the people there are happy....Unfortunate ly we still have the huge waste build up problem in our country which could be alleviated with..you guessed it...an incinerator..which everybody agrees on, but nobody wants it within 100 miles of them. Meanwhile the taxpayer and economy loses millions due to outdated waste management and the cost of shipping hazardous waster abroad (including a huge amount from the Ringaskiddy area) for treatment because we don't have the facilities here, plus our environment is damaged hugely by more landfill sites because of the lack of incineration...Good ol Ireland..

He may be a waster but he's not hazardous really :p
Going back to the story, there is a good report by the Bord Pleanala Planning Inspector into all the facts and figures here. (http://www.pleanala.ie/news/PA0010/PA0010.htm) Worth a look if you have an hour and a stiff drink.
It says that most haz waste from Ringaskiddy is already dealt with in ways that do not need another incinerator there. Most of the haz waste in Ireland is not from there in the first place. And what might need to be burned is way less than what this one was designed for.
That is before you get into the fact that the site is falling into the sea....

The lack of a commercially driven incinerator does not mean that there is a "lack of incineration."
An awful lot of hazardous waste produced in Ringaskiddy is incinerated locally. More is recycled:
http://www.veoliaenvironmen talservices.ie/treatment/solvent-blending/
If you are saying it is wrong to export waste, then why would it be right to build an incinerator with a capacity for 100,000 tonnes more than is produced in all of Ireland? Surely it is wrong to import waste for incineration?
GSK, Pfizer, Novartis, and Centocor all have on site incinerators, as does Schering Plough in Brinny.
