Kevin Aitken writing in todays Dumpland METRO, compared two united fans being lifted to Safety with the Hillsborough Disaster where 96 Liverpool fans DIED.

Slight bit of hyperbole there I think.

Agreed.

while Daniel Taylor in The Gaurdian describes "five terrible minutes of confusion there were scenes that were worryingly reminiscent of the early stages of the Hillsborough disaster." , he cant be accused of Manyoo bias, becuase he qualifies that remark by correctly pointing to the more relevent European preccedent of the incidents involving Roma , Inter and Feynoord

By and large England had one of the worst Hooligan problems , But since they took down the barriers it has worked perfectly well except for a few isolated streakers and celebrating fans. Uefa should ensure that these 7-10ft high barriers are removed. Officials also herded fans into that section even though the tickets were for another section of the ground "to keep them all together "..........Heads need to roll here somewhere

For a few minutes it looked as even the players were worried

I'll never forget the numbness of watching the dour 1985 European Cup Final

Thank fuck nothing serious happened last night as those two terrible 80's tragedys do not need re-visiting

He's right though it shouldnt be tolerated.

Every club have their morons. Some Leeds fans sing constantly about Munich when playing United even though they had their own lucky escape from a plane incident in '98.

Some United fans sign about Heysel & Hilsborough at Liverpool & Istanbul to get back at those Leeds fans. Disgusting behaviour. All this talk of banning those responsible for homophobic chants should also get this sort of stuff stopped.

It's unsavoury, but sadly it does happen. Not sure what you can do about it though- some people are just cunts. Racism was a problem of a whole different magnitude, I'm glad it's a thing of the past in England and here too- Those 'I'd rather be a Paki than a Dub' chants at the cross made me cringe (especially as one of my matchday mates is half-Pakistani), more ignorance than nastiness, but still not nice.

This sort of thing though? Unsavoury, regrettable, but if this is as bad as it gets these days it's a sign of good progress.

How does that work anyway? Is it a bit like how Floyd Patterson was the 'good' negro?
